Life Care Center of Cleveland, Garden Plaza Cruise-In for a Cause benefits Operation Christmas Child

Posted on Friday, October 30, 2009

Life Care Center of Cleveland, Tenn., and Garden Plaza at Cleveland joined together on Oct. 17, 2009, for their second annual Cruise-In for a Cause, benefitting Operation Christmas Child.

“Together, through the hard work of the associate team and the faithful support of the Cleveland community, we are able to bless thousands of children across the world this Christmas,” said Judy Scott, executive director at Life Care Center of Cleveland.

Community members brought in filled shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child and enjoyed viewing 30 antique cars at the parking garage.

Several awards were given for the vehicles, including:

  • Spectator Choice – 1955 Chevy owned by Jack Dill.
  • Participant Choice – 1974 Charger owned by Chester Edward.
  • Most Unique – 1957 Chevy owned by Billy Ogle.
  • Oldest Ride – 1930 Model A Ford owned by West Dandridge, Jr.
  • Best Club Participation – Southern Mustangs and Fast Fords.
  • Traveled the Farthest – Rick and Donna Thornton, who came more than 100 miles to the event.

The big winner, however, was Jamie Hickman, who won Best of Show for his 1968 Chevy Camaro SS.

The event also included refreshments and a performance by local singer Jeffrey Link.

The Cruise-In was the opening event for the campus’ 2009 Operation Christmas Child campaign. Both facilities invite the community to join them in filling sturdy shoe boxes (or other similarly sized storage boxes) with Christmas gifts. The boxes will be distributed to children in war-torn and poverty-stricken countries by Samaritan’s Purse, the Christian relief organization headed by Franklin Graham, son of the Rev. Billy Graham.
