Lops named Life Care’s Chief Compliance Officer

Posted on Monday, November 02, 2009

Life Care Centers of America recently named Michael Lops as its new chief compliance officer.

Lops, who has been serving as general counsel for Life Care, succeeds Sharon Coleman in the position. His appointment is based on “his extensive experience and training in compliance, corporate integrity agreements, and as a compliance officer,” said Forrest Preston, Life Care chairman.

As a member of senior management, Lops will be responsible for making quarterly reports regarding compliance matters directly to Preston and the Life Care board of directors.

“I am confident that this action will help us move forward with our goal of creating a more effective and robust compliance program,” Preston said.

Before joining Life Care, Lops was vice president, general counsel, chief compliance officer and chief administrative officer for Mobility Products Unlimited, a home medical equipment supplier, in South Daytona, Fla., from 2005 to 2009. From 1984 to 2005, he was affiliated with the Eckerd Corporation headquartered in Clearwater, Fla., including service as vice president, chief compliance officer and regulatory counsel from 1997 to 2005. Earlier, his work with Eckerd included positions of associate general counsel and director of risk management.

“It’s clear that Life Care wants to do its job in the best way possible for resident care,” said Lops. “It’s an honorable company, and I’m proud to be part of it.”

Lops earned his bachelor’s degree from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He earned his master’s degree in business administration from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., and his J.D. degree from Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Fla.

A native of Norfolk, Lops currently resides in Cleveland with his wife, Diane. They have one son, who is an attorney in Orlando.
