La Caņada Care Center associates participate in Harvest for Hope 5K
Posted on Wednesday, November 04, 2009On Oct. 3, 2009, associates and family members from La Cañada Care Center in Tucson, Ariz., participated in the fourth annual Harvest for Hope 5K: Run, Walk, Skip or Jump at the Riverfront Park in Oro Valley, Ariz.
More than 20 associates and their family members gathered together to participate in the non-competitive, family-oriented community event. The ages of the participants varied from 2 to 56 years old.
Instead of paying an entry fee, Harvest for Hope requests that all participants bring non-perishable food items to donate to those in need in the community. Each associate from La Cañada Care Center donated a bag of canned and non-perishable items. Last year, the 5K brought in more than 5,000 pounds of food, and the organization hoped to double that number this year.
All participants received a medal for finishing the race. Aaron Pepin, the son of Jody Pepin, social services assistant, was very excited when he heard that he would be receiving a medal. The 5-year-old ran more than a mile and a half and said, “I’m so proud to be a champion runner.”
After the race, the associates and their family members shared a potluck dinner in the park. They all agreed that it was very rewarding to help their community.
