When Garden Terrace Convalescent Center, the first Life Care Centers of America facility, opened in Cleveland, Tennessee, in January of 1970, founder Forrest Preston was fulfilling his dream of building a new kind of nursing home.

Setting a new standard for elegance and decor in a care facility, Garden Terrace fostered an environment where residents and patients were treated with respect and care, allowed to live with dignity in a building furnished like their own homes. Life Care continues to be a leader in care today.

What is Skilled Nursing?


Skilled nursing facilities, also called nursing homes or convalescent centers, provide housing and 24-hour skilled nursing services to individuals requiring post-acute care due to decreased ability to perform activities of daily living. Services provided range from long-term care to short-term rehabilitation.

In addition, Life Care Centers of America offers short- and long-term, on-site rehabilitation in all of its nursing homes. Specialized programs and features vary in our facilities, but many offer fine dining, concierge and valet services, on-site physicians and state-of-the-art technologies such as the AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill®.
