Juana Relles, a housekeeping assistant at Life Care Center of Vista, California, received Life Care Centers of America’s Southwest Division Whatever It Takes And Then Some Award in June for her dedication to customer service.
Life Care awarded Juana a $1,000 cash prize during an awards ceremony at the facility. Facility leadership surprised her, who was told she needed to watch a training video. When the video started, it was actually a video of fellow associates at the facility, as well as residents, talking about what they appreciate about her.
“I feel very moved,” Juana said. “I never expected this award. I’m very grateful that all these years that I’ve been with this company they do appreciate me.”
Juana was chosen from among thousands of associates in the Southwest Division and was one of only eight associates from Life Care’s more than 200 facilities nationwide to receive the award.
Juana acts as an interpreter for Spanish-speaking residents.
When Life Care Center of Vista experienced a COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, Juana was the only associate available to work in the housekeeping and laundry departments for several days in a row. She worked hard to keep the facility clean and provide for residents’ needs. Without being asked, during the pandemic, she also volunteered to help move residents from one hall to another.
“I remember most that smile at a time when not very many people were smiling,” said one resident in the video she watched. “I hope that whatever reward she gets she will enjoy as much as we enjoy her.”
