Life Care Centers of America honors associates who go above and beyond their job descriptions in caring for residents, their families and fellow associates. Here are three of the inspiring stories from our February 2019 winners:
Tammy Hobbs-Paterson, certified nursing assistant at Garden Terrace at Overland Park, Kansas, anticipated a resident’s need. According to the resident’s husband, “I didn’t realize my wife needed some more socks and was told by Social Services when I was visiting one day. As I was leaving, I told the staff what I needed to go buy, and Tammy said, ‘No, you don’t. I got that taken care of. I brought in six new pairs of socks for her, so don’t you worry.’ It was just a nice gesture.”
Deb Vaudrin, registered nurse at Life Care Center of Cheyenne, Wyoming, made Valentine’s Day a special occasion for a resident. The patient was admitted to the facility just before the holiday, and he was upset because he liked to go all-out for his wife for Valentine’s and didn’t think he would be able to do so this year. On her break, Vaudrin went out and purchased everything for a romantic dinner for two. The resident and his wife were brought to tears by this act of kindness.
Marvin Fonseca, environmental services director at Life Care Center of Sarasota, Florida, studied YouTube videos to learn how to make towel animals for new patients. He came up with eight different animal design and began placing them on the beds of new admissions. They immediately fell in love with them. On one occasion, Fonseca even took a towel animal elephant to a resident who had just come in from the hospital and told her he just wanted to brighten her day. She was thrilled!
