Life Care Center of Sierra Vista welcomes COVID-19 vaccine clinic

01/26/2021
Debi Steele, Activity Director

Jan. 3, 2021, proved to be a historic day in the fight against COVID-19 as Life Care Center of Sierra Vista, Arizona, received its first dose of the Moderna vaccine.

More than 70 doses were administered to residents and staff, with a follow-up scheduled for Jan. 30.

Meagan Rendon, director of nursing, took lead and received the first dose. She knows and advises that getting vaccinated can help protect people around you from COVID-19, particularly people at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19. She was proud of the staff and residents who took this step to protect themselves and those around them.

Jodi Cota in central supply stated she was getting vaccinated “to protect the residents and my family.”

Michelle Dolan, also in central supply, shared, “It just makes sense working in a retirement community.”

Michelle Prokopius, activity assistant, said she felt she “has been educated and vaccination is something we do for each other as much as you do for yourself.”

Cierra Hauck, licensed practical nurse, perhaps put it best: “I am doing what I need to do to help. This is another tool we have in the arsenal to fight COVID-19 and protect our community. It is one we have in our control instead of just waiting for herd immunity.”

Vaccines are part of a social pact when done the right way, with all the information public from credible sources. This is an individual choice but with society-wide implications.
