Former Firefighter Resident at Life Care Center of Morehead Gets Special Visit from Local Fire Dept.

Recently, Life Care Center of Morehead had to call the fire department.

Don’t worry; there was no fire to fight or emergency to manage. But there was one resident eagerly awaiting the arrival of the firefighters and their bright-red rig.

For 23 years, Life Care Morehead resident James served as a firefighter for the Zoneton Fire Department in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. He loved serving as a firefighter, making lasting friendships with his colleagues, fighting fires, and helping the community.

For six years, he also served on the Jefferson County Search and Rescue team.

James is a resident at Life Care Center of Morehead and loves connecting with the staff and his fellow residents. When Morehead associates recently learned of his past firefighting career, they decided he deserved a special visit from the local fire department.

Morehead associates contacted the assistant fire chief at the Morehead Fire Department and asked if they’d be willing to stop by the facility and visit with James –– and they agreed.

Not only did James get a chance to visit with several firefighters, hearing their stories and sharing his own, but he also got to explore the fire truck inside and out, reliving his days aboard his old rig and marveling at all the new equipment firefighters use today.

“I loved looking over the truck,” James said. “I was able to see all the updates that have been done over the years. They showed me some of the new tools along with some of the old tools that I used when I was a firefighter. It felt great.”

Having the chance to serve, care for, and connect with residents like James, who are rich in life experience and full of inspiring stories, is rewarding on many levels. We are so glad he got the chance to revisit a special period of his life and make new friends along the way.

For James, the firefighters, and the Life Care Center of Morehead staff, it truly was a day to remember!
