Whatever It Takes Champions – October 2023 edition

Life Care Centers of America's Whatever it Takes Champions program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for residents, their families and fellow associates. Here are four of the inspiring stories from our recent winners. These associates are certainly Champions of Care!

Tori Eslick, Housekeeper at Life Care Center of The Willows, knows that serving her facility means more than just fulfilling her duties as housekeeper. For Halloween, she brought in supplies and decorated the building, making the environment as festive as possible. The residents and their visiting families loved it!

We appreciate your thoughtfulness and creativity, Tori!

Vicki Nesbitt, RN at Life Care Center of Morehead, provided valuable support and a sense of peace for one family of a resident who was in her final hours.

Here is what the family had to say about Vicki’s care:

“Vicki was an amazing presence for my family in the week leading up to my mother’s passing. Vicki worked nights, and I was sitting vigil as my mother struggled to let go from this world and move on. After a while, my weariness began to show. Vicki could see this, and she took the time to sit and talk with me. We talked about Mom, life, death. She was peace in the storm I was trying to get through. I felt her calm demeanor and caring attitude, which made it easier for me to say goodbye.”

Thank you for being there for our residents and their families, Vicki!

Maria Nieto, RN at Life Care Center of Palm Bay, has proven herself to be a valued and appreciated associate. Recently, one of her colleagues assisted Maria with a discharge and had this to say about Maria’s exceptional manner:

“Each time, the patients are very emotional, hugging, tears, and stating how much they will miss Maria. I felt lucky to witness these moments. At the end of the day, if you can personally touch someone that profoundly, that's a great day. I felt she should be honored for the bond, relationship and impression she leaves on her patients."

We also think Maria deserves to be honored!
