Marlene was walking in a grocery store parking lot when a car backed into her, knocking her and her husband to the ground. Marlene suffered a femur and spine fracture.
After her surgery, she came to Life Care Center of Longmont for short-term rehabilitation.
Upon admission, Marlene was unable to bear weight on her leg and required extensive assistance in all areas of daily living, from getting out of bed to dressing and bathing. She was very sore from the accident and surgery and had great discomfort.
Marlene participated in physical and occupational therapies to regain the abilities she lost, working very hard to maintain the physician's restrictions while she healed. She used adaptive equipment and enganged in strengthening exercises to prepare for her next stage of recovery after clearance from her orthopedic surgeon.
Marlene states, "Everyone was very understanding of my goals and status, so that we were all working together toward my goal of getting up and walking again. From lying in bed, able to do nothing for myself, to now able to do most my daily needs, I am so happy for the support I have gotten."
Marlene is now able to walk using a front-wheeled walker and can complete her activities of daily living without assistance.
Marlene and her husband, Lee, plan to move to a local assisted living facility. They celebrated their 65th anniversary while Marlene was in therapy at Life Care, and they are looking forward to celebrating Lee's 90th birthday upon her return home!
Congratulations to Marlene on all of her achievements, and we wish her the best in this exciting next chapter of her life! We will miss her and her family!
