What our outpatients are saying about us...

Robert R. was recommended to Life Care Center of Estero for outpatient physical therapy by his daughter.

Robert shared, "Outpatient has motivated me, showed me the potential I have to do more every day, independently, without assistance.

What I liked about the experience was the patience of my therapist and overcoming innate laziness on my part."

Environment

Environment

Outpatients can schedule therapy sessions with our trained therapists to fit their own schedules. They can also use our separate outpatient entrance directly to the rehabilitation gym area without walking through our skilled nursing portion of the building.

We want all our patients to have a safe and comfortable rehabilitation experience, so hygiene and cleanliness are important to us. We routinely sanitize our facility, including our rehabilitation gym and equipment. Our staff follow all CDC and CMS guidance for infection control, including hand hygiene and wearing face masks in the building.

We also offer an outdoor mobility course for those working on walking. The course includes stairs, a ramp, a curb, grass, gravel, a sidewalk and an obstacle course for community integration and negotiation of various outdoor surfaces. Our outdoor area provides space for simulating various sports, including tennis, pickleball, bocci ball and golf.

Equipment

Equipment

For a rural area rehab center, we are proud to offer our community a wide variety of therapy tools, from the traditional strengthening weights to a machine developed by NASA.

Our Biodex Balance System equipment can assess balance, fall risk and lower-extremity weightbearing to design patient-specific static and dynamic balance programs with computer screen visual feedback to improve postural control, righting reactions and proprioceptive input to lower extremities in a safe environment.

One of our most advanced machines is the AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill. The AlterG is a treadmill with a bubble-like enclosure that zips up to create a secure space that can be depressurized. The machine can help you walk or run at 20-100% of your body weight, based on your doctor’s orders. It can also improve endurance, speed, range of motion and balance. It can be used to help runners train for distance running, such as 5K and 10K races, and it helps our patients recover more quickly from lower-extremity injuries by decreasing stress on joints.

The AlterG is available as part of our outpatient treatment with a physician prescription. For training, individuals can purchase three 30-minute training sessions on the AlterG for $50 with private pay.

Golf Swing Therapy

We are proud to offer a specialty rehabilitation program for golfers. Todd Smith, assistant director of rehabilitation and a master of physical therapy (MPT), and Justin Guess, physical therapist assistant (PTA), are certified by the Titleist Performance Institute.

"Southwest Florida is a popular vacation destination as well as home to many seasonal and full-time residents," said Todd.

"Our many golf courses and tropical weather are the perfect combination for golf enthusiasts both professionally and for leisure. Our goal in our golf swing therapy is to provide a quick screen to identify muscle imbalances which can affect golf swing and game and to design patient-specific exercise programs to correct these imbalances so our patients can get back to their game."

Titleist Performance Institute is the world's leading educational organization dedicated to the study of how the body functions in relation to golf swing. Certified TPI clinicians know how a properly functioning body allows a player to swing a golf club in the most efficient way possible and what physical limitations in a player’s body can adversely affect swing and lead to potential injury.

Our golf therapy can help golfers who are experiencing:

  • Unsteadiness on the golf course
  • Slicing with their golf swing
  • Hooking with their golf swing
  • Topping with their golf swing
  • Physical limitations that have made them stop playing golf

Our TPI-certified therapists assess patients to create a plan unique for each golfer that may include therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular reeducation, modalities for pain management and home exercise programs. We educate our clients on swing and biomechanics affecting their specific golf swing to decrease pain and increase golf swing efficiency.

In addition, our Sky Trak golf launch simulator offers a real-time golf practice system which provides instant laser-precision feedback data on shot shape, angle, spin rate and distance to help identify deficits in range of motion, strength, flexibility and balance. We can also communicate with your local golf pro for a team approach to improve your swing and game.

Parkinson's Disease Program

Parkinson's Disease Program

We also offer a specialty Parkinson's disease program designed to assess patient strength, range of motion, balance and gait impairments.

Our therapists design a patient-specific plan with strengthening exercises to target weak muscles and stretching exercises for tight muscles to decrease postural issues, gait impairments and fall risk.

Our goal is to help each Parkinson's patient to carry over their specific exercise programs at home to slow the progression of the effects of this disease. We have LSVT BIG- and LOUD-certified speech and physical therapists (Tricia Nicolette and Heather Roka, respectively). In addition, Heather is a Neurologic Certified Specialist and certified in Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT).
