Whatever It Takes And Then Some Winners – April 2020

Life Care Centers of America’s Whatever It Takes And Then Some program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for residents, their families and fellow associates. Here are three of the inspiring stories from our April 2020 winners.

John Wilson, physical therapist assistant at Life Care Center of Palm Bay, Florida, is a footwear hero. He noticed that a male patient only had slippers to wear with no tread to aid in wheelchair mobility, and he gave the patient a pair of sneakers to wear so he could get around better. Then, on the day of John’s wedding rehearsal, he delivered brand-new sneakers to a female patient who only had slippers that were at least two sizes too large. He also brought in sneakers for a stroke patient to use with their ankle foot orthosis and gave boots to an associate in need of work shoes.

Shannon Geiger, certified nursing assistant at Rivergate Health Care Center in Riverview, Michigan, was a senior in high school when the pandemic hit the country. She looked into how she could make a difference and chose to work in a nursing home. She started at Rivergate Health Care Center as a hospitality aide and took an online CNA class to become a CNA. “She has worked her shifts without complaint and made the residents here feel so at ease and cared for,” read her nomination.

Carolyn Cox, physical therapist assistant at Life Care Center of Copper Basin in Ducktown, Tennessee, is a true team player. Even though her house was damaged by a tornado, she remained consistent with her work. During all that and the COVID-19 pandemic, she went out of her way on her day off to collect needed personal protective equipment supplies for the facility. She has also made efforts to recognize other facility associates for going above and beyond regardless of department.
