Stephen Payne recovers from pneumonia at Life Care Center of Seneca

On June 26, 2020, Stephen Payne came to Life Care Center of Seneca, Kansas, for rehabilitation after suffering from pneumonia and a collapsed lung.

At first, Stephen needed moderate assistance for most of his mobility – including walking, transfers from one surface to another, bed mobility and standing balance. He also required moderate assistance for many of his activities of daily living, including hygiene, bathing and dressing.

Stephen took part in physical and occupational therapies five days a week. The therapists worked with him on standing tolerance activities to increase his endurance, energy conservation techniques and strengthening exercises for his upper and lower body using the NuStep^® and Omnicycle^® exercise machines.

“Steve was always willing to attempt different activities to increase his activity tolerance for his goal to return home successfully,” said Mary Pennington, occupational therapist.

“Therapy helped me with everything from the basics to becoming independent in my room,” Stephen shared. “My stay was excellent. The therapy and nursing staff are beyond caring and very therapeutic to me.”

Stephen returned home on July 23. He is independent once again.
