Life Care centers celebrate Valentine’s Day 2020

Life Care facilities around the country celebrated Valentine’s Day 2020 with parties, music, food and lots of fun! Here are a few unique ways our residents and associates marked the Day of Love.

Garden Terrace Healthcare Center of Federal Way – A French Valentine’s

Residents and associates at Garden Terrace Healthcare Center of Federal Way, Washington, gave their Valentine’s Day a Paris theme. The festivities began at 10 a.m. with a movie festival, including “Moulin Rouge,” “Gigi,” “An American in Paris,” “The Aristocats,” Paris travel videos and a number of Maurice Chevalier films.

The facility played French music throughout the day and shared fun facts about Paris. Residents could even check out a virtual reality 360-degree experience of being at the base of the Eiffel Tower.

Refreshments included strawberry cheesecake ice cream, homemade white cake with a blueberry glaze filling, cupcakes and sparkling apple cider served in champagne glasses.

Glenn Fischer, activity director, serenaded the residents with a concert of French love songs mixed with romantic Frank Sinatra and Elvis tunes.

Green Valley Care Center – Designing Crowns

At Green Valley Care Center in New Albany, Indiana, residents designed their own crowns to feel like royalty for the day.

“We have found that in the past some residents had their feelings hurt with one person being the queen or king,” said April Davidson, activity director.

April went to Burger King and got crowns for the residents, then turned them inside out so residents could decorate the with their own creative flair. They then wore the crowns to the Valentine’s party, which included treats, punch and musical entertainment.

Life Care Center of Orange Park – Candy Grams

Life Care Center of Orange Park, Florida, provided residents and associates with a way to show each other how much they care and appreciate one another. Associates took orders for candy grams with a special message to be delivered on Valentine’s Day.

Resident Steven Bowers volunteered to be the Candy Gram Delivery Man and went around with a cart decorated to be Cupid’s carriage, delivering the messages.

“It was fun,” Steven shared. “I enjoyed seeing the surprised smiles on all their faces. They were all tickled pink!”

Life Care Center of the South Shore – Italian Night

What could be more romantic than a taste of Rome?

Life Care Center of the South Shore in Scituate, Massachusetts, invited residents and their families to experience an Italian Night for Valentine’s Day. An accordion player, Antonio, serenaded the residents in the dining room, where they also enjoyed amaretto cookies and a variety of gelato flavors.

“The night was fun, energetic and tasty!” said Lia Macrina, recreation director. “Our residents loved it. We even had some family members up and dancing to the tarantella.”

Life Care Center of Wichita – visiting high schoolers

Wichita Southeast High School in Wichita, Kansas, has a class called Jobs for America’s Graduates. The class brainstormed ways to provide community service that could then lead to information on jobs available in the community. The students decided to make valentines for the residents at Life Care Center of Wichita and then delivered them on Valentine’s Day.

“I met with the class regarding Life Care’s mission and values and how Life Care believes in promoting from within,” said Natalie Merten, director of rehab. “The kids were engaged and asked relevant questions regarding open positions. There was an excellent conversation regarding both clinical and non-clinical positions available in this setting, and several students are going to pursue further volunteer opportunities at our facility.”
