Donald Kaplan had been experiencing terrible back pain and decreased mobility as a result of spinal stenosis, a condition in which the spinal column presses on the spinal cord.
The team at Life Care Center of Leominster, Massachusetts, was there to help. Donald came to the facility for rehabilitation on June 25, 2021, needing extensive assistance with bathing and moderate assistance with all of his mobility tasks, from walking and standing to rolling over in bed or getting around in a wheelchair.
Six days a week, Donald took part in physical and occupational therapies. Therapists worked with him on stabilizing his spine, especially when bending. They also trained him in using adaptive equipment for his activities of daily living.
“He attempted all tasks asked of him with a pleasant attitude,” said Chris Landry, occupational therapist. “He was a pleasure to work with.”
Donald shared, “My pain changed dramatically. On a scale of one to 10, I’d have to say it’s zero, and it’s never been like that. I’m very impressed with how friendly and knowledgeable everyone is.”
Donald reached his goals and returned home on July 7, only a week and a half after arriving, with modified independence. He can take care of his activities of daily living on his own and get around with a rolling walker.
