National Skilled Nursing Care Week associate spotlight: Lisa Shull

Associates in skilled nursing facilities across the nation have felt the impact of COVID-19 rattle through their communities in different ways over the past 13 months. When you care for the most vulnerable demographic while also trying your best to take care of yourself and your loved ones, life can become a whirlwind of emotions that seems inescapable.

Lisa Shull is one of the many skilled nursing associates who has gone above and beyond to take care of her residents and patients since the pandemic began. Lisa works at The Westchester House in Chesterfield, Missouri, as the MDS coordinator, and has worked there for over eight years. She went to school to become an LPN in 1989 and continues to serve the St. Louis community 31 years later.

When COVID-19 was officially announced a global pandemic in March 2020, Lisa and her team worked around the clock to ensure that their residents and patients were safe and healthy.

She says that helping the families be at ease during one of the most difficult periods in history was a top priority – whether that be through making FaceTime calls or replying to messages.

“Last year, during the beginning of COVID, I would call my residents’ families daily from my personal phone to give them updates and allow them to FaceTime their loved ones,” said Lisa. “This experience made me even more compassionate.”

Through every season, Lisa has had one steadfast goal in mind since the beginning of her professional career – to unconditionally care for the residents and patients she serves. With COVID-19 vaccines continuing to be distributed nationwide, Lisa and her team can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Through the highs and lows of life, we consider ourselves fortunate when we have people like Lisa in our corner cheering us on.

At Life Care Centers of America, we are proud of our compassionate staff. We are honored to recognize associates who, despite the challenges of the past year, showed an incredible and steadfast commitment to providing quality care and ensuring the safety of residents and fellow associates. We celebrate their influence on our lives during National Skilled Nursing Care Week, May 9–15.
