Residents find Christmas cheer at The Heritage Center

Despite the COVID-19 precautions in place this year, the team at The Heritage Center in Morristown, Tennessee, made the Christmas season fun and cheerful.

On Dec. 11, 2020, residents were challenged with a unique spin on the gingerbread house building tradition. Instead of gingerbread, residents were given a variety of toaster pastries to work with. They decorated their creations, and associates voted on their favorites.

“We had 11 residents participate in decorating, and they loved it!” said Victoria Bowen, activity director.

Annie Brotherton won first place in the contest.

On Dec. 15, the Christmas cheer took a musical turn. Six members of the facility’s leadership team caroled through the halls, with the clinical liaison accompanying them on the piano. Several of them donned their festive attire as well.

Residents sat in their doorways to listen to favorites including “Silent Night,” “Away in a Manger,” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” The activity staff handed out special treats and punch to them.

“We had several residents who were on the phone and held up the phone for their families to listen,” Victoria shared. “It was truly such a joyous moment in the facility.”
