Retired nurse recovers from hip replacement at Lynchburg Nursing Center

Janet Brown, a nurse for 43 years, underwent a hip replacement that has turned out great.

Janet was a trauma nurse for 36 years but about 20 years ago actually worked at Lynchburg Nursing Center in Lynchburg, Tennessee, on weekends for about a year.

“I loved the place then and knew it would be great to come to for my rehab,” Janet shared.

After traveling around working as a trauma nurse and a flight nurse at Vanderbilt in Florida and at Erlanger Hospital in Tennessee, she retired. However, she keeps up her license through continuing education.

After a local orthopedic replaced Janet’s hip, she was glad to come to Lynchburg Nursing Center for her therapy. When she arrived on June 17, 2021, she was in pain and had limited mobility. She needed help with her activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing and grooming.

Physical therapy worked with Janet at first on bed mobility and pain management, and as she progressed, they helped her improve her walking skills and standing up and sitting down. The occupational therapy team purchased adaptive equipment to help her manage her self-care skills independently, as well as helping her with problem-solving techniques to handle the steps at her home.

“Lynchburg came highly recommended by several people, and it was all true!” Janet said. “The nursing staff made sure I was also comfortable and had what I needed. The therapy group encourages you to keep going even when it is not easy. Lynchburg Nursing Center is a great place to come for therapy and to get great care.”

Janet returned home successfully on July 1, independent in her ADLs and walking confidently with a rolling walker.
