Life Care Center of Red Bank gets security guard back to work

Douglas Bearden needed physical and occupational therapy, as well as wound care after a prolonged hospitalization.

He had developed sepsis, low blood pressure and high blood sugar and required intubation. He also developed a wound from an abscess.

On March 4, 2021, Douglas came to Life Care Center of Red Bank in Chattanooga, Tennessee, needing moderate assistance for walking, and hygiene and some help with bed mobility, transfers from one surface to another, bathing and dressing.

The therapy and nursing teams worked together to help Douglas meet his goals so he could return home and get back to work. They used IV antibiotics to help resolve the infection and dedicated wound care to heal his wound. In rehab, he worked on building activity tolerance and strength, retraining in his activities of daily living with adaptive equipment and durable medical equipment, gait training, balance and work-hardening activities to improve his success upon returning to work.

“Therapy has been excellent,” Douglas said. “The wound nurses are great, and all the nursing staff help to uplift you. Everyone has bent over backwards to help me.”

Douglas was able to return home, independent, on March 25.
