Committed to Care: Whatever It Takes Winners June 2024

Life Care Centers of America's Whatever it Takes Champions program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for our patients, residents, and their families. Here are four inspiring stories of recent winnners. These associates are certainly Champions of Care!

Nickie Blaker, Receptionist at Life Care Center of Brookfield

Recently, a coworker’s son, Joey, received a cancer diagnosis. Once Nickie found out about the diagnosis, she began planning a fundraiser to help her coworker cover some of Joey's medical costs. She decided that a silent auction was the way to go, so she asked local businesses to donate food and items to auction and to create “Joey Strong” T-shirts to sell.

Nickie’s fundraising event generated more than $4,000 for Joey!

Alicia Lewis, Housekeeping Aide at Life Care Center of Farmington

According to the facility’s resident council, Alicia is an outstanding employee who strives to be a source of support and joy for the residents and patients. Here is what the council had to say about Alicia in their Whatever It Takes nomination of her:

“We would like to nominate Alicia for going over and beyond her job title. She always makes sure our room is cleaned, visits with us, takes us down to activities when we ask, gets us ice water, gets us candy, and makes sure we have coloring pages. Alicia is always fun to have around when cleaning our rooms. We need more people like her!”

Caitlyn Crouch, Dietary Aide at Life Care Center of Morehead

One resident’s family member was so moved by Caitlyn’s devotion to care that they nominated her for a WIT award. Here is the note they included in their nomination:

“She is so good to my dad, Bannie. She goes out of her way to make sure he eats good and gets what he wants. She even goes to the store and buys what he wants if they don’t have it in the kitchen. And she stops by and checks on him and just goes out of her way to take care of him.”

Krystal Harris, Physical Therapist at Life Care Center of Pensacola

During a therapy session, Krystal learned that one of her patients was upset about being unable to send his wife flowers for Mother’s Day. So, Krystal spent her lunch hour finding local flower shops who could deliver flowers to the patient’s wife that day. She found the perfect bouquet and arranged for it to be sent to the patient's wife.

He was overjoyed and grateful!
