After a serious motor vehicle accident, Harold Gates sustained multiple fractures that left him unable to walk and in need of assistance with all normal tasks and routines.
He was admitted to Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau on July 7, 2022. After the therapists assessed Harold’s level of ability, they developed a personalized care plan for him that consisted of physical, occupational and speech therapies. From the beginning of his therapy program, Harold showed fierce determination to regain his strength and mobility.
“Mr. Gates was always willing to work and try hard tasks, even when he was hurting,” said Beth Ringwald, Physical Therapist at Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau. “It really showed in his progress.”
After working with our therapists for weeks, using specialized tools and modalities, such as the OmniCycle®, the BioStep™, slide boards and balance pads, Harold began to see great improvements in his ability to walk and safely complete daily tasks on his own.
“Harold was highly motivated to increase his independence despite the barriers,” said one of the Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants. “He soared as the restrictions eased. He was always eager to participate.”
After two months of hard work and unshakable resolve, Harold completed his short-term therapy program at Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau. He was discharged on September 27, 2022, with his strength, balance and mobility restored. And he was able to walk over 400 feet without any assistance!
“The therapists were always willing to listen, answer questions, and encourage me to be my best,” said Harold. “The staff was always willing to do all they could to make my stay as comfortable as possible!”
Harold Gates is another bright example of why we do what we do at Life Care Centers of America. It’s our passion to help people regain and maintain their independence so they can live their very best lives.
