Cañon Lodge Care Center decorates windows

Where is a better place to add a little sunshine than a window?

At Cañon Lodge Care Center in Cañon City, Colorado, associates and residents did just that. Associates painted the windows in the lobby, dining room and hallways with bright colors. They also painted the residents’ room windows with the residents’ help.

“They told us what colors they wanted and how to place the design they wanted too,” shared Kari Gunning, activity director. “We want to keep our residents upbeat and happy while they are in their rooms.”

Residents have a beautiful and constant reminder of kindness and joy.

Associates also made kites that look like stained glass for the windows, as well as marble glass suncatchers to bring different colored sunbeams into the rooms.

“It was something fun to do and pretty to look at!” Kari said.

Resident Cheryl Deneen said, “I think the windows are so beautiful! It makes me cheery and bright.”

Fellow resident Feena Cote added, “It makes the plain windows nice and colorful, and my plants help the bottom of the windows.”

Associates also helped residents with a craft in which they traced the resident’s hands and attached a string the length of the resident’s arms. They then sent the hands to the residents’ family members for a “hug” from their loved ones.
