Whatever It Takes And Then Some Champions of Care – July 2020

Life Care Centers of America’s Whatever It Takes And Then Some program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for residents, their families and fellow associates. Here are three of the inspiring stories from our July 2020 winners. These associates are certainly Champions of Care!

Elizabeth Guyot, unit nurse at Rivergate Terrace in Riverview, Michigan, knew a resident had been talking about having a banana split for his birthday for a while. Elizabeth went out on her lunch to the local ice cream shop, but when they were closed, she went to Sonic and got him a large banana shake. “Boy, was [the resident] ever so happy!” said Tracy Wiggins, admissions assistant. “He told everyone that was the best shake he had ever had.”

Kate Proctor, speech therapist at Heritage Health Care Center in Globe, Arizona, brings in personal supplies to do therapy with her patients. She brought in her sewing machine and quilting supplies to help occupy a patient’s mind and hands when she was missing her family due to the COVID-19 visitation restrictions.

Rose Berzel, certified nursing assistant at Life Care Center of Idaho Falls, Idaho, was caring for a resident who was passing away. She wanted some pretty flowers in his room to see and smell, and she took it upon herself to buy a beautiful flower arrangement with her own money for his pleasure and to show love and support to his family.
