Life Care residents share their favorite springtime memories

A lot of fun things happen in springtime, and many memories are made. Here are some of our residents’ favorites.

“When I got married and he gave me a ring!”

E.F., Life Care Center of Estero, Florida

“Easter games at home and at church. There was an Easter egg hunt and passing out baskets. My mother was very creative about what she put in our baskets, not just candy but puzzles and stickers and other little things.”

D.B., Life Care Center of Hixson, Tennessee

“Working to get the yard ready for flowers with my grandfather.”

M.C., Life Care Center of Kennewick, Washington

“My favorite springtime memory is going to Daytona Beach, and my dad would come with us. He would take off work to come.”

J.A., Life Care Center of Red Bank in Chattanooga, Tennessee

“We used to go to dances. One spring, the band that sang ‘Sugar Shack’ was coming to perform. A buddy and I went to listen. We were waiting to get an autograph from the band, when a woman came up to my buddy and I and asked for an autograph from us. We signed her paper for her and just laughed and laughed!”

K.D., Life Care Center of Westminster, Colorado

“I am a spring chick. I celebrate my birthday in the spring.”

L.C., Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau, Missouri

“Our family all lived in two blocks of each other. We would all eat dinner on Sunday, our family and the in-laws. After dinner, we would all take a walk, our kids and all, and visit each and every one. Sundays were special days.”

A.S., Life Care Center of Plano, Texas

“With my kids, we went outside to fly kites, had picnics and threw balls. We ate some good food like hamburgers, sandwiches, cookies, apples and soda pop.”

G.H., Garden Terrace at Fort Worth

“I have wonderful memories of springtime at home as a young girl. My brothers and I loved to swing from a vine across an old creek, hoping we made it all the way across without falling in.”

P.V., Life Care Center of LaGrange, Indiana

“Horseback riding with my horse Go-Boy in the countryside, seeing all the spring flowers in bloom. I miss those good ol’ days.”

E.H., Life Care Center of Morristown, Tennessee

“In the winter, we had no heating unit, just a fireplace, so we had to wear thick, long socks for months. At the first sign of spring, we could finally take off those itchy socks and wear our anklet socks again. I loved those anklet socks!”

M.P., Life Care Center of Blount County in Louisville, Tennessee

“We used to always go camping in Pennsylvania – the whole family. We walked a lot and rode our bikes.”

A.G., Life Care Center of Estero, Florida

“When I was a little girl, we would celebrate the end of school. One time, they took us to Knoxville to have a fun day. We went to the zoo and to the park. And I also remember on May 1, my mom allowed us to go barefoot.”

T.T., Life Care Center of Hixson, Tennessee

“My favorite memory was my childhood in Quebec when the snow melted.”

A.M., Life Care Center of Kennewick, Washington

“Seeing your families and having good meals. Always had a bonnet and straw purse and new dress and went to church to celebrate Easter. When I was little, I thought Easter eggs came out of the ground.”

P.P., Mitchell Manor in Mitchell, Indiana

“My favorite springtime memory would have to be going to the apple orchard when everything is blooming, and also being able to pick apples.” C.B., Life Care Center of Red Bank in Chattanooga, Tennessee

“Going mushroom hunting with my dad.”

C.A., Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau, Missouri

“When I was a little girl, many church friends would get together at our house at Easter time to hunt for colored Easter eggs. The grand prize was a golden egg that all the children hoped to find, myself included.”

M.S., Life Care Center of LaGrange, Indiana

“We played games with our boys outside, like baseball and running around to get them tired. By the end of the day, my boys were ready to go to bed.”

L.M., Garden Terrace at Fort Worth

“In the springtime, my friend and I would go to Germany for Easter, the Black Forest. We would stay below the Eagle’s Nest. We would go to the Danvers and the church. A sermon was written on all the walls of the church. We would play chess with the people who lived there. We saw where the soldiers stayed and were stationed. It was a great Easter adventure.”

B.S., Life Care Center of Hendersonville, North Carolina

“I like to see the flowers come up, like to mow, walk in the woods, explore caves and fish at the river.”

G.H., Mitchell Manor in Mitchell, Indiana

“Easter, of course. I always thought I had to have a new outfit to wear because I enjoy shopping for clothes.”

P.Q., Life Care Center of Morristown, Tennessee

“My best springtime memory was with my dad. I always called him Pops. I would wait for him after school at the end of the driveway after he got off from work. We would go down to the gardens and start planting vegetables. It was the best talks and alone time I had with my dad. I sure do miss him.”

A.L., Life Care Center of Hendersonville, North Carolina

“Springtime is the perfect time for golf! My buddies and I would play every weekend during the season.”

H.H., Life Care Center of Blount County in Louisville, Tennessee
