Rehab success stories 2023

At Life Care Centers of America, we have the privilege of seeing hundreds of patients regain their strength and independence through our short-term therapy services every year.

And that shouldn't come as a surprise, considering the many talented therapists we have at our facilities nationwide –– and the exceptional determination of our patients!

But we always love to highlight a few of these stories to inspire our teams as well as the people of our communities who may need a little inspiration and encouragement.

Below are just a few of the rehab success stories we've had this year, showing once again that Champions both work and recover at Life Care!

Randy at Mitchell Manor

Randy Lawyer came to Mitchell Manor after undergoing surgery. When he first arrived at the facility, Randy needed assistance with all tasks due to his decreased balance and coordination.

Randy worked with our physical and occupational therapists to increase his endurance and strength, practicing gait training and using the aerobic cycle.

When he finished therapy, Randy demonstrated good safety awareness when performing daily tasks and was able to perform all living activities without assistance.

Thelma at Life Care Center of Estero

When Thelma arrived, she was unable to walk, transfer from the bed or complete daily activities on her own. She also had trouble speaking clearly and eating solid foods.

Our interdisciplinary therapy team created a personalized care plan for Thelma based on her abilities and rehab goals. She worked with our physical, occupational and speech therapists to increase her strength and improve her swallowing ability.

When she was discharged, she was able to walk with a walker, complete activities independently and eat soft solid foods.

“Therapy helped me mentally and physically –– I can walk! And now I can eat soft solid foods and drink regular liquids with my special straw.”

Jennifer at Mitchell Manor

Jennifer Box came to Mitchell Manor after a decline in her safety awareness and ability to perform daily activities. When she arrived, Jennifer could not get out of bed without assistance and had little motivation for therapy.

Once we created a personalized care plan for her, Jennifer worked with our physical, occupational and speech therapists to increase her independence and safety.

Jennifer’s hard work paid off! At the time of her discharge, she was able to get out of bed, complete daily activities and walk over 500 feet without help.

“Therapy helped me achieve my goals, and I am all better!” said Jennifer. “I am walking and standing better as well. The therapy staff were really cool.”

Betty at Mitchell Manor

When Betty Speck arrived at Mitchell Manor after spinal surgery, she was unable to walk or perform daily activities on her own.

Once we created a personalized care plan for her, Betty worked with our physical and occupational therapists to manage her pain and regain her strength and mobility.

After less than a month, Betty completed her therapy. At the time of her discharge, she was able to dress, groom, perform daily activities, and walk with a walker.

“I made the right decision coming here for therapy,” said Betty. “They had the knowledge to help me get home.”

We are so happy for all of these patients and wish them all the best as they continue their journeys back to independence!
