Fitness Enthusiast Ron du Preez Inspires Residents at Life Care Center of Attleboro

Last month, Life Care Center of Attleboro received a special visit from a man on a wellness mission.

Ron du Preez is a 73-year-old pastor who recently finished walking 50 kilometers in 50 states – in just 50 days! While personal achievement was a major motivator, Ron’s primary goal was to educate and inspire others like him. Along his routes, he stopped by skilled nursing facilities and senior living communities to spread his wellness message.

Ron took the first step of his fitness journey in Hawaii and quickly ventured from Alaska down to the lower 48 states. One of his stops during his trek around the country included our Attleboro facility, where he met with the residents, shared his inspiring fitness story, and reminded everyone about the importance of staying active in their senior years.

“I’m out walking and/or cycling simply to draw attention to this important aspect of living better,” Ron said about the motivation behind his journey. “So my focus is essentially on fitness – focus on fitness, and to draw attention to living a vibrant, enjoyable, abundant life.”

Ron’s incredible stories and his example of determination and perseverance encouraged everyone at the facility and had a wonderful impact on the residents.

“Ron was well-received and inspired our residents, so much so that residents were motivated to walk more with their restorative program!” said Activity Director Tammie Hall.

"Take one small step at a time," du Preez said. "Start from where you are and see what your needs are and what you can do. And then tied in with all of that is attitude. You have to have, of course, a focus, a goal, but I call it an attitude of gratitude."
