Life Care Centers of America's Whatever it Takes Champions program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for our skilled nursing patients and long-term care residents, their families and fellow associates. Here are four of the inspiring stories from our recent winners. These associates are certainly Champions of Care!
This past Mother’s Day, one of Sparta's residents received a lovely bouquet of flowers from her family. But the sugar water in the flower vase attracted an army of ants that overtook the plant and her room!
Alicia came to the rescue. She removed the flowers from the room and went to the store to get more flowers for the resident –– but the store had no more flowers in stock. Not wanting to let this resident spend Mother’s Day without flowers, Alicia went home and got the Mother's Day flowers she received and brought them to the resident! The resident was overjoyed by Alicia's generosity and selflessness.
Kim Taylor's exceptional service motivated a guest to publicly express their gratitude and nominate her for the Whatever It Takes award!
Here is what the family member had to say:
"I visit my wife, Virginia Sonier, daily at Life Care Center of Ocala. Kim has become one of my favorite Life Care employees. She is always so helpful and caring. She really goes out of her way to assist throughout the facility in whatever way she can. She has excellent customer service skills, but I believe her caring and compassion comes straight from her heart."
Edwin decided to honor a resident’s special meal request, even though doing so for a single resident is not always feasible. This resident craved Mofongo, a Puerto Rican dish made with plantain and pork or chicken. So, Edwin purchased the ingredients on his own and personally made the dish for the resident. The resident was surprised and delighted!
Zveleaky's incredible kindness and compassion earned her a Whatever It Takes nomination and created a precious and unforgettable moment for a resident:
"I just casually said that the next day was my parents’ 56th wedding anniversary. Zueleaka got so excited about the news and offered to get them a cake to celebrate! After the meeting, "Z" and I talked again and planned out their anniversary celebration. I ordered a cake and got it delivered Saturday for lunch. Z had their anniversary lunch meal all set up in a private room with a beautiful tablecloth and flowers. It was just amazing and beautiful. This may be their last anniversary together, and she made sure they celebrated."
