Reclaiming Independence with Short-Term Therapy: Success Stories for July 2026

We love to highlight our rehab graduates to celebrate their accomplishments and encourage anyone who may be considering inpatient or outpatient therapy for themselves or a loved one.

If you are wondering if short-term therapy would benefit you and your family, take a look at the following patient success stories for July 2026!

Marie at The Highlands

Marie came to The Highlands from the hospital, where she had been treated for pulmonary hypertension, inflammatory arthritis, and heart failure.

Upon her arrival at The Highlands, she needed help with all daily activities, such as bathing and dressing, due to pain and reduction in dexterity. She also struggled with weakness, maintaining balance, and activity tolerance.

To address these issues, Marie participated in physical and occupational therapy services, with the intent to return home to live independently. Her personal goals were to improve her mobility and be able to cook on her own again.

During her therapy program, Marie made great strides and returned to her prior levels of functional independence. To prove she was ready to return home, she walked 175 feet with her rollator and cooked her famous “Sunday Gravy” in the rehab apartment kitchen!

"My experience was full of pleasant people, pleasant activities, and pleasant and thoughtful care. The staff were great. I loved everybody! If I had to go back to rehab, I would definitely choose The Highlands. I highly recommend." –– Marie

Beverly at Life Care Center of Melbourne

Beverly was admitted to Life Care Center of Melbourne after undergoing a total hip replacement due to fall.

Upon her admission, she needed moderate-to-total assistance with all mobility, from getting in and out of bed to dressing and walking short distances with a walker.

For her rehabilitation program, Beverly received physical therapy and occupational therapy five days a week with a focus on restoring her mobility and improving her ability to dress, bathe, and walk on her own.

In less than a month, Beverly achieved all her recovery goals, regaining her independence in all areas of concern: bathing, dressing, bed mobility, and walking. At discharge, she walked over 400 feet with her walker at a comfortable, steady pace.

"I felt like I was never going to be normal again after I broke my hip. Through all the therapy, not only did I regain my strength –– I regained my confidence. The care was exceptional on all levels. The caregivers and nursing staff were kind, considerate, gentle, and always encouraging." –– Beverly

Jesse at Life Care Center of Grandview

Jesse required aftercare following a surgery and chose Life Care Center of Grandview for short-term therapy services.

When he arrived at the facility, he was lethargic, disoriented, and dependent on the staff for all mobility and self-care.

To address his challenges, Jesse participated in physical therapy and occupational therapy five times a week to work on bed mobility, transfers, walking ability, and overall neuromuscular reeducation. His goal was to return home.

During his therapy, Jesse used a standing frame to allow him to increase his time in a weight-bearing upright position. This helped him retrain to walk and transfer from his bed without aide. After just two weeks of therapy, Jesse could walk with a walker without supervision and complete his daily activities with minimal assistance.

He discharged back home to his wife with a big smile!

"I enjoyed my workouts and all therapeutic activities that were planned for me. I'm very impressed with the staff, including nursing, dietary, rehab, and admin, and how friendly and accommodating they were." –– Jesse
