Skilled Nursing Champs – Whatever It Takes Winners for March 2025

Life Care Centers of America's Whatever it Takes Champions program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for our patients, residents, and their families. Here are four of our recent winners and their inspiring stories. These associates are certainly Champions of Care!

Alexis Miller, CNA at Life Care Center of Yuma

A resident newly admitted to the facility was having a little trouble adjusting to their new environment. But Alexis was there to give them the support they needed to feel right at home. Because of this, the resident decided to nominate Alexis for the Whatever It Takes monthly award, and this is what they had to say about her:

“There was a special ray of sunshine that helped me on some really gray days. Her name is Alexis Miller, and she is a CNA here. I just wanted to give her the recognition she rightly deserves...So, thank you again for being amazing, and know I sincerely appreciate you.”

Amneris Mora, CNA at Evergreen House Health Center

Amneris noticed that a resident was confining herself to her room on a regular basis, apparently too uncomfortable to come out and interact with others. So, during her break, Amneris decided to invite the resident to join her outside on the patio. Within a few minutes, the resident was laughing and smiling. Now, because of Amneris’s compassion and generosity, the resident leaves her room often, eager to connect with others.

Jesus Portero, Dietary Aide at Life Care Center of Punta Gorda

Jesis noticed a resident’s family member struggling with a heavy laundry basket. Jesus stopped what he was doing and offered them his assistance, carrying their load all the way to their vehicle. Every day, Jesus shows his kindness, cheer, and compassion to residents, associates, and guests, making everyone feel welcome, appreciated, and loved.

Smile Odasco, CAN at Life Care Center of Hilo

Smile’s nomination came from the family member of a resident who recently passed. Here are their words of appreciation for Smile:

“She was very kind and helpful to us during our difficult time. She came to check on my mom every round. She showed excellence in her job when my mom was in her last days. Smile really matches her name, for she does her job with a smile. She took her time to make my mom and the family comfortable. We really appreciate her. Thank you, Smile.”
