This holiday season, Earl Witt is thankful to be back to his usual self after an exacerbation of COPD left him very weak.

When Earl came to Life Care Center of Michigan City, Indiana, on Oct. 13, for rehabilitation, he needed moderate assistance with bathing and dressing, as well as some assistance with most of his mobility, including balance, transfers from one surface to another and walking.

Earl took part in physical and occupational therapies seven days a week. The therapists focused on not just strengthening his muscles but also teaching him how to do his daily self-care routines in a way that conserved energy. Therapists monitored his oxygen levels using an oximeter to ensure he stayed safe.

“Therapy helped me regain my strength to walk and complete my dressing skills independently like I was doing before,” said Earl. “My stay at Life Care was good, and everyone here is so nice. I have been here a few times before, too.”

Earl returned home on Nov. 13, able to get around his house with a rolling walker. He is independent in his mobility and self-care once again.
