Whatever It Takes And Then Some stories from December 2019

Life Care Centers of America’s Whatever It Takes And Then Some program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for residents, their families and fellow associates. Here are four of the inspiring stories from our December 2019 winners:

Theodora Hernandez Ramirez, certified nursing assistant at Mirada Hills Rehabilitation and Convalescent Hospital in La Mirada, California, uses her free time to knit hats for lady residents to keep them warm and looking elegant. She also takes time to get to know her residents by sitting at their bedside and having meaningful conversations with them. 

Antoinette Carson, certified nursing assistant at Life Care Center of Valparaiso, Indiana, took a resident out to her home for a Thanksgiving feast. She knew the resident didn’t have family members active in her life, and she wanted the resident to enjoy the holiday with her and her family. She has also taken residents to the movies before.

Zoe Stone, certified nursing assistant at Life Care Center of Cheyenne, Wyoming, took time during the holidays to start off the dinner meal by singing Christmas songs to the residents. She took requests from residents, and many residents commented on her beautiful voice. Zoe took her performances seriously, even practicing before singing!

Virginia McCaig, occupational therapist assistant at Rivergate Health Care Center in Riverview, Michigan, takes her time to find and bring in many things for the residents to make them comfortable and happy. One example is a resident who she helps with ties – purchasing, washing, pressing and tying on for him. She also came in on her day off dressed as Mrs. Claus, with her husband dressed as Santa Claus and their granddaughter dressed as an elf.
