While Life Care Center of Morehead, Kentucky, offers short-term rehab services for a lot of patients, even long-term patients can sometimes increase their level of functioning through rehabilitation.
Such was the case for Bessie Jent.
Jent is a long-term resident. She was having issues with blood pressure, strength and balance.
Physical and occupational therapists assess her and felt that she would benefit from rehab to decrease her fall risk, boost her strength and improve her balance.
Therapists used the NuStep exercise bicycle with moving legs and arm cranks to help her with strengthening exercises and endurance. They also did standing dynamic balance activities.
Within four weeks, Jent was able to stand up and walk nine seconds faster than before and increased what she was able to do in self-care. She was able to walk 300 feet with a rolling walker and standby assistance. She was able to return to her favorite leisure activities, walk to the dining room and eat meals with her friends.
Jent completed therapy services on Aug. 16, 2019.
When asked what has contributed to her success in a long-term care facility, Jent said, “Everybody is so nice, and I just love the therapy department, especially the hot coffee!”
