Independent & Assisted Living

Aging affects each person differently, and at different times, requiring individualized care plans to be tailored to each person's personal and medical needs. Depending on residents' level of independence and care requirements, an independent living facility or an assisted living facility may offer all the assistance a person needs. Independent living and assisted living services are offered by many Life Care Centers of America facilities.

What is Independent Living?

Independent living is the first and lowest level of care available. At an independent living facility, or ILF, a resident experiences a care setting that combines housing and limited support services for those with greater independence. ILFs provide basic housekeeping and linen services, meals, transportation to appointments and errands, social programs and activities and access to facility amenities such as exercise rooms.

What is Assisted Living?

For residents requiring more hands-on support, assisted living is the second level of care available, offering more services than an ILF, but less than a nursing home. An assisted living facility, or ALF, allows a resident to still live in their own apartment-like space, but offers nursing support, help transferring to or from wheelchairs, reminders for meals, medication management and incontinence assistance. ALFs also grant access to the facility's social programs and activities, facility amenities and transportation.

Continuum-of-Care Campuses

Many of Life Care's locations are continuum-of-care campuses, which allow residents to easily move between different levels of care depending on their needs. This provides the added benefit of increasing or decreasing care levels without the need to adjust to new environments or to make new friends.
