Life Care Centers of America’s Whatever It Takes And Then Some program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for residents, their families and fellow associates. Here are three of the inspiring stories from our May 2019 winners:

Marcie Colvin, nursing assistant at Life Care Center of Hilliard, Florida, works from 3 to 11 p.m. However, during the entire month of May, she decided to volunteer her time in the morning by coming in at 10 a.m. to trim, paint and polish residents’ fingernails. She even brought in extra colors not usually available to the residents in their salon. The residents were overjoyed and loved showing off their beautiful manicures.

Georgia Arrechea, nursing assistant at Alameda Oaks Nursing Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, uses holidays to bring a little extra love into the lives of residents at Alameda Oaks. Recently, she gave gift bags to the residents on Easter. She also spreads happiness on other holidays like Mother’s Day, when she and her son handed out cards that touched residents’ hearts.

Martha Champlin, nurse supervisor at Hickory House Nursing Home in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania, has been spending her free time coming to the facility to help residents start and care for their vegetable garden. Recently, she harvested the vegetables and took a significant amount of them to a local food bank. Champlin donated the food on behalf of the Hickory House residents, making the residents proud of their efforts and earning sincere appreciation from the food bank staff.
