Julia Kucab, a 98-year old resident at Life Care Center of Attleboro, Massachusetts, inspires residents and staff at the facility with a story that touches the heart and lends insight on how to live life to the fullest.

“I left home at 13 to attend Perkins School for the Blind,” said Julia. “I was there for six years. The school provided a very good education.”

Next, Julia worked for 40 years at a roofing company in East Walpole, Massachusetts, as a transcriber of notes. The salesmen would audio record what they needed Julia to document and she would type what she heard. This job was challenging, but Julia loved the challenge and enjoyed her time at the company.

During her free time, Julia enjoyed dancing, shopping and sending cards to her friends for different occasions. After retiring, she spent her time volunteering as head of a vision support group and offered support to many people. Julia shares her wisdom by proving that nothing can stop you if you have determination. She was committed to never letting any obstacle interfere with her life.

Now, at Life Care Center of Attleboro, Julia enjoys listening to her many audiobooks and having the opportunity for FaceTime chats with her cherished friends.

“I just finished listening to the Jan Karon series,” said Julia. “I really enjoyed it.”

When asked what one piece of wisdom she would give to the younger generations, she answered, “Be independent.”
