Steve Chandler came to Life Care Center of Athens, Tennessee, for rehabilitation after suffering a bone infection in his lumbar vertebra.
When he arrived on July 21, 2020, Steve needed extensive assistance with bathing and getting dressed, and he needed some help with walking, bed mobility, transfers from surface to surface and standing balance.
Physical and occupational therapists worked with Steve six days a week to help him reach his goals. Physical therapy focused on lower-body strength and balance, while OT worked with him on self-care skills and upper-body strengthening.
“My time at Life Care Center of Athens was as good as one could expect for being in a nursing facility,” said Steve. “Everyone there was as kind, considerate and concerned with my well-being as anyone could ask for. I felt I was among family and friends. In a short time, they took me from feeling very bad to feeling I was back to normal and ready to dance again. They have very professional staff, which I am thankful for.”
Steve returned home on Aug. 28. He is now independent again.
