On March 22, 2021, Life Care Center of Elkhorn, Nebraska, celebrated World Down Syndrome Awareness Day.
Associates joined in the worldwide event “Rockin’ Our Socks” by wearing their brightest and boldest socks.
The team was primarily supporting Trena Clauson, assistant director of rehab services and speech therapist, whose infant granddaughter was born with Down Syndrome. Trena’s daughter gave birth three weeks early and didn’t even have time to get to the hospital – her husband arrived at her workplace just in time to deliver the baby while the 911 dispatchers gave him instructions!
“EMS arrived minutes later, and both mommy and baby were taken to the hospital,” said Trena. “My daughter was discharged the next day, and [my granddaughter] spent eight days in the NICU before getting to go home. Both are healthy and happy.”
Trena added, “My team supporting my little granddaughter and all other ‘homies with extra chromies’ means so much to me! I have the best team ever.”
