Rehabilitation wasn’t far away for Carolyn Wildharber when she fell and suffered a compression fracture in her back.

A resident of La Center, Kentucky, Carolyn came to Life Care Center of La Center on Feb. 3, 2020. When she arrived, she needed total assistance for her activities of daily living, as well as getting in and out of bed and walking. Her swallowing skills had also been impaired.

Carolyn worked hard to achieve her goals of recovering and returning home. In physical therapy, she did strengthening exercises and gait training, while occupational therapy helped her relearn the skills she needed for taking care of herself, getting dressed, grooming and bathing. Speech therapy also played a role – it helped her relearn how to swallow safely.

“The staff here was friendly and provided excellent care,” said Carolyn. “Therapy was excellent. They helped me get back home with my husband.”

Carolyn returned home on Feb. 21. She can now take care of her activities of daily living with standby assistance and swallow normally again.
