Today, Monday, June 8, is National Best Friends Day. To celebrate, we asked our residents to share some of their favorite memories of times shared with their friends.

“Every Saturday we went to the movies together and then dinner. Also, after that we had a sleepover. We still talk since third grade.”

Dorothy C.
Life Care Center of New Port Richey, Florida

“My best friend came about in the military. We would play jokes on knuckleheads. We enjoyed daring each other to do things controversial.”

Jack B.
Life Care Center of Hendersonville, North Carolina

“First time ever on a trip without parents, to Roswell, New Mexico, with my girl-friend. Visited the Roswell Caverns. Spent one week just having fun. Went out on the prairie to hunt Pecos diamonds. These stones have facets on both ends, some as long as an inch. Enjoyed driving back in her VW Bug. We grew up real fast (felt like it, anyway).”

“There was a time when her home was being sold, and she had no place to live. I took her into my home with my family because she had no family members that lived around the town. She was very happy that I let her stay at my house. That’s what friends are for.”

Betty B.

“We grew up in the north side of Fort Worth. We played jacks, rode our bikes, watching my brothers and their friends play basketball and football. We all graduated together from North Side High School.”

“Elk hunting. My best friend took a tumble down a hill, rolling and hitting trees, landed at the end of the hill still with the gun in hand. He was so clumsy he couldn’t walk and talk at the same time.”

Gary L.
University Park Care Center in Pueblo, Colorado

“My friend Dorothy and I and our families would eat Sunday dinner together. One Sunday after we ate, we decided that it would be fun for the chickens to run loose. We let them out, and boy, did our parents get mad! We learned a lesson that neither of us ever forgot.”
