Remarkable Residents: Jo the Ambassador & Geneva the Horticulturist

Each of our residents is remarkable in one way or another. Their stories, talents, and wisdom make caring for them especially rewarding and inspiring.

Meet Jo and Geneva from Life Care Center of Winter Haven!

Jo is one of Life Care Center of Winter Haven’s Social Ambassadors.  Born in Florida, Jo loves socializing, listening to music, and spending time with her fellow residents. She believes one of the most important parts of living in a skilled nursing community is helping new residents feel welcomed and included, and right at home.

As a Social Ambassador, Jo welcomes incoming residents, shows them around, and helps them feel comfortable and like they belong. When asked what she enjoys most about her role as Social Ambassador, Jo shared that she loves including people, being connected with everyone, and helping those who may feel scared or nervous when they first arrive.

Her favorite thing about Life Care Center of Winter Haven is “the family atmosphere.” 

Geneva Blackwelder brings beauty and color to Life Care Center of Winter Haven.

Born in Georgia and raised in Fort Meade, Florida, Geneva has always had a passion for making the world a brighter place. She credits her mother for inspiring her love of gardening teaching her about tending flowers. Geneva worked in the floral industry for many years before bringing her talents to our community.

For the past two and half years, Geneva has proudly served as the Facility Horticulturist, transforming the facility courtyards into colorful, charming, and welcoming spaces for residents, families, and staff to enjoy. She even selected many of the flowers herself to bring her personal creative vision to life.

When asked what she loves most about Life Care, Geneva shared, “I have the freedom to work in the yard. The food is good, and the staff are so nice to me.”

When she’s not tending to the flowers and beautifying the grounds, Geneva keeps busy painting, coloring, reading her Bible, and supporting and inspiring others.

We are so blessed and thankful to have residents like Jo and Geneva. They are the reasons our communities bloom, shine, and thrive.
