We love to highlight our rehab graduates to celebrate their accomplishments and encourage anyone who may be considering inpatient or outpatient therapy for themselves or a loved one.
If you are wondering if short-term therapy would benefit you and your family, take a look at the following patient success stories for October 2026!

Ed joined us at Life Care Center of Grandview after a fall resulting in a right hip fracture.
Upon his arrival, he needed total assistance with transfers and moderate assistance with bed mobility, dressing, bathing, and hygiene tasks.
Ed worked with physical and occupational therapies five times a week for about ten weeks to improve his strength and balance, using specialized technology such as the NuStep.
During his therapy sessions, Ed was often in great spirits and joked his way through his modalities, often giving everyone a hard time but showing good motivation to get stronger.
That motivation paid off, and Ed discharged with total wheelchair independence and the ability to walk with only set-up assistance!
"They tried to trip me up but never could. I was too fast for them…but only because of them." –– Ed

After being treated for a chronic wound, Deirdre came to Life Care Center of Saint Louis for short-term therapy.
Upon admission, Deirdre was unable to walk and required set-up for feeding and grooming and help with bathing, dressing, bed mobility, and transfers.
Her physical therapy focused on training with balance, transfers, and safe walking and strengthening of her lower extremities. Occupational therapy aimed to improve her lower-extremity function and her ability to perform activities of daily living.
Before she discharged back home, Deirdre required only minimal assistance with grooming and dressing and was completely independent with transfers and bed mobility. Her ambulation had improved significantly, and she was able to walk 50 feet with her walker!
“My therapy was awesome! I love therapy. I said push me harder, and they made it happen. I really appreciate them. Erin was my favorite therapist, and she helped me so much.” –– Deirdre

Dorothy was living independently at Heatherwood Retirement Community but had a bad fall.
After being treated at the hospital, she came to Hickory House Nursing Home for short-term therapy to address chronic pain and weakness and complications from a heart blockage.
When she arrived, Dorothy was dependent with transfers and could walk only 10 feet with moderate assistance. She also had significant weakness in both legs and pain in her knees and shoulder. Her diet had to be mechanically altered due to dysphagia.
Hickory House’s physical, occupational, and speech therapists completed comprehensive evaluations of Dorothy and created an individualized plan for her to address her functional deficits. Her goal was to return her to her prior level of independence and live safely in her senior living apartment at Heatherwood.
At the end of her therapy program, Dorothy was transferring independently, walking 200 feet without help, and eating a regular diet. She returned to her independent living apartment at Heatherwood Retirement Community and continued outpatient therapy at Hickory House.
"The therapy helped me to get back to walking by myself, and I can get out of bed by myself. I was excited to get back to my apartment at Heatherwood Retirement Community." –– Dorothy
