Our Whatever It Takes Champions program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for our patients, residents, and families. Here are four recent winners and their inspiring stories. We are proud to have associates like these who define what it means to be Champions of Care!

Amanda Smith at Life Care Center of New Market

This nomination comes from a recent therapy patient, who credits Amanda with making her stay comfortable and successful:

“Amanda made a meaningful impact on me when I was struggling to continue my stay at the facility. She got down on her knees and spoke to me in a manner that I will never forget. She reminded me what a great opportunity I have and that I would be selling myself short if I did not give my best effort after my stroke. It changed my life, and she did not have to take the time to talk to me. She deserves to be commended.”

Reese Qualkenbush, Driver at Mitchell Manor

During a trip to a resident’s medical appointment, the resident told Reese that he hadn’t visited his mother’s gravesite in a long time and would love to go. When they returned to the facility, Reese made the proper arrangements and scheduled for the resident a special trip to his mother’s grave. The resident and his family were immensely grateful.

Alfred B., CNA at Life Care Center of Scottsdale

Our families feel great peace knowing their loved ones are in good hands. Here is what one family had to say about Alfred and the care he provided their mother and grandmother during her therapy stay:

“This gentleman treated my mother with professionalism, loving care, compassion, and concern. And he is an overall wonderful person and employee. I also want to thank him for the help that he provided me and my daughter upon check-in and through the night. Thank you.”

Chris Simmons, Occupational Therapy Assistant at Life Care Center of Hickory Woods

A therapist with a green thumb, Chris planted and cultivated a beautiful facility garden that produced peppers, squash, pumpkins, and a bounty of opportunities for rehab patients to rebuild their strength, ability, and confidence!

Thanks to Chris, occupational therapy patients can complete safety tasks, sequencing tasks, problem solving exercises, and more in a unique, outdoor environment, which adds variety and fun to their therapy programs.
