Western Hills Health Care Center in Lakewood, Colorado, got creative this year in bringing the fall fun even with the COVID-19 precautions.

On Sept. 16, 2020, the facility held a drive-by fall festival event for referring case managers, placement agencies, local assisted living facilities and independent living facilities. Associates served a smoked brisket in to-go containers. Guests drove under the portico to pick up their dinner. Community partners and other skilled nursing facilities provided side dishes such as baked beans, potato salad, watermelon and beverages.

Jenna Klos, unit manager at Western Hills, brought several farm animals to greet the guests as they arrived. The residents came out early, before the guests came, to interact with the horses, chickens and goats.

More than 34 guests drove through, and some brought their children, who enjoyed spending time with the animals. “The response was overwhelmingly positive,” said Amy Goeglein, executive director. “They loved that they got to stay in their cars and just drive through, then have dinner for their family! It was a HUGE success, which I credit to Sheri Fowler and her marketing team in Denver.”
