  • Patient name: Becky Pierce
  • Physician: Navleen Gill, M.D.
  • Referral source: Acute Care Hospital
  • Admitted for: COVID-19 and Leg Fracture

Becky came to Mitchell Manor following hospitalization for lower leg fracture and COVID-19 with resulting shortness of breath, weakness, balance issues and difficulty walking. Becky was also ordered not to put any weight on her left leg.

At the time of admission, Becky required physical assistance with her day to day tasks, not able to get in and out of bed, transfer or walk. Initial tests indicated high fall risk and maximal assistance with day to day tasks.

With Becky's input, a plan of care was made. She began working with PT and OT to decrease fall risk and regain her independence while unable to bear weight on her leg. Treatment included pain management, strengthening, balance recovery and strategies, self-care training, ambulation, education and safe discharge transition.

"Becky was very pleasant and excited to participate. She demonstrated good carryover with her training including following weight bearing precautions and instructions," states her treating therapist.

Becky went home in December 2023. At her discharge, Becky was independent with her day to day tasks, transfers and mobility while not able to bear weight on her leg.

Congratulations Becky! We wish you all the best!
