Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley resident Hazel Plummer received the first of the two Pfizer vaccines for COVID-19 on Dec. 30, 2020.

Hazel, who is the oldest citizen of Massachusetts, held up a sign saying, “I’m 112 and getting vaccinated. Just do it.”

Hazel’s son, David, was able to be with her for the occasion, and those present clapped for her after the shot was completed. She experienced no side effects.

Hazel was one of 49 residents to take the vaccine that day from CVS pharmacists. Fifty associates also seized the opportunity to receive the vaccine.

“The vaccination process went well,” said Samantha Periera, executive director. “We did all the prep beforehand so that it would be an easy process day-of.”

Among the preparations was a drive-up consent fair for families of residents to sign consents for their loved ones to get the vaccine.

“This was a blessing to the facility,” Samantha shared about Vaccination Day. “The day was filled with positivity and hope for the bright future ahead. We dedicated the day to all of our residents and hard-working associates who have been with us through such a difficult year. This was the light at the end of the tunnel, and we cannot wait for CVS to return on Jan. 20 for the second dose.”
