Our Whatever It Takes Champions program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for our patients, residents, and families. Here are four recent winners and their inspiring stories. We are proud to have associates like these who define what it means to be Champions of Care!

Cheryl Demoss, Restorative Aide at Life Care Center of Port Townsend

Recently, Cheryl overheard a resident attempting a long-distance phone call to a relative and noticed they were struggling to follow the phone prompts. Cheryl stepped in and not only helped the resident complete their call but also created for them a phone schedule showing the times when her relatives would call. Thanks to Cheryl, the resident no longer needs to worry about missing or struggling with another call with loved ones!

Alexis Walton, LPN at Life Care Center of Plano

The short-term therapy patient who nominated Alexis for the February Whatever It Takes award had this to say about her outstanding care:

“I want to express my heartfelt thank you for the incredible care and support you provided during my time at Life Care Center of Plano. Your kindness, professionalism, and attention to detail made all the difference in my recovery. I truly appreciate everything you do.”

Wes Johnson, Wound Care Nurse at Alderwood Manor

For two years in a row, Wes and his family have helped the residents at Alderwood Manor enjoy Superbowl Sundays by bringing them food and drinks for the occasion. It all started when Wes came in to work to cover for someone and noticed how excited all the residents were for that year’s game. He knew he had to do something to make the experience extra special for them.

One resident said, “He went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our day."

Piper Silva, LPN at The Oaks

Receiving nominations directly from the family members of patients and residents is always extra rewarding for us and helps us know we are right on target when it comes to delivering exceptional care.

Here is what a resident’s son said about Piper’s extraordinary service:

"Piper has done an outstanding job taking care of my mother. Piper's care and concern are extraordinary. She has taken the time to explain what she was doing to care for my mother as well as following up with myself. She truly should be recognized for her outstanding care and compassion. She is one in a million. You are extremely fortunate to have her on your nursing staff.”
