Norma Young: From Fracture to Home

Norma admitted from Multicare Good Samaritan Hospital following a fall that resulted in a fracture in her left leg.

Upon admission Norma was wheelchair dependent, requiring assistance for bed mobility and lower body dressing. She needed moderate assistance with bathing and standing, and she had difficulty lifting her left leg.

Norma participated in physical and occupational therapy five times per week. In physical therapy she focused on balance, bed mobility, and gait training, while occupational therapy had her concentrate on her activities of daily living. Both therapies provided her instruction on strengthening exercises.

Norma was ready and willing to work on activities of daily living. She often expressed her desire to get better and go home.

When Norma discharged from her short-term therapy program, she was walking with a walker and independent with all activities of daily living, marking a significant improvement from her condition on her day of admission.

Congratulations, Norma, on your inspiring success with short-term therapy during your stay at Life Care Center of South Hill! We wish you all the best on your independence journey.
